Read THIS blog post by a teacher. I mean actually read it. Take it in. Think about it. And then, write about it. What do you think about it? What is the teacher trying to say? In your own words explain what "the main event" is.

I think what this teacher had to say is 100% accurate.  Students quit, especially now, because schools too hard, or because summer is only a few weeks away.  He is right though, we can't quit, we cant say no, and we all need to try harder.  The teacher is saying that instead of thinking you will magically get the grade you want in a class, you need to try and succeed.  The main event is to not quit.  Even outside of school you should always try your hardest even if it gets tough.

3 day weekend... how was it? Give me a good story or something funny that happened this weekend. Go

Over the three day weekend I spent most of my time getting ready for prom and hanging out with friends. Saturday started around 12 when I had to get motivated to start getting ready.  At 3 I got my hair done and then came home and got ready.  I was up till 7 am on Sunday so I spent most of Sunday in bed.  Around 8 I went over to my friend Camille s house for a bonfire with a couple of friends.  Then on Monday I took it easy, didn't really do much other than stay in bed and watch Netflix.

If images are on the internet they should be "free game".

I agree and disagree. I agree that people should be able to use them for a visual on projects and other things; but if there "free game" I don't think people should be able to claim them for their own.  Images are put on the internet by people who own them and they deserve to have the rights to them.  If people want to use that image for something I feel they should be able to but they have to cite the source and give credit to the owner.

I think my website turned out really well.  I know how to use HTML and CSS really well so I was able to do a lot with this website.  After looking at other peoples website I would've added some pictures and a little more color to mine. I really liked the image I had at the top with my name in it, I thought using Photoshop was a lot of fun and I'm able to do lots of cool things with it.  As I was went around and viewed other peoples websites I saw some things I did and didn't like at all.

Overall I really liked my website and the way it turned out.  I thought it looked professional and had a nice color scheme to it.  I think if someone wanted to learn more about me they easily could with the website I designed.  It wasn't overwhelming with random colors and words, it was very professional. I think websites vary by looks based on who might be viewing it and what the person is like.

What's the coolest thing you've learned in Web Design so far? Why is it so cool and how can it help you in the future?

I've enjoyed learning how to make my own website. I thought it was surprising how easy it was to code things and learn CSS.  I like how I'm able to design the website the way I want and personalize it to my liking. The other cool thing that I think we've done is creating this blog.  Its a fun way to share what I'm thinking and its nice being able to read other peoples and learn more about them.  These skills will help me in the future by allowing me to create a website for anything I may need and when having to deal with HTML I will know what to do.

Define 'User Experience'. What does it mean and how does it relate to web design? Explain yourself.

User Experience is the overall experience of a person using a product such as a website or computer application, especially in terms of how easy it is to use.  User experience typically focuses on understanding the user, and making it easier for the user to navigate the website.  It also takes into account the business goals and objectives of the group managing the project.  This relates to Web Design because when making a website you want it to be easy to navigate for anyone that might be using it.

The purpose of a resume website is to provide a summary of your skills, abilities, and accomplishments.  Things people put on their website is previous job information, education, awards and achievements, and hobbies or interests. Resume websites are looked at by future employers, professors in college, and for some people its a way to share their information with other people.

What are you doing for Spring Break?

Tonight I leave for Branson with my family.  We're going with my aunt uncle and three little cousins. My grandparents have a place down there at the Greens which is right on a golf course so my dad and I spend a lot of time there.  During the summer we go down the Tablerock lake and spend 8+ hours there. This time though we are just going shopping, playing golf, go-karts, and bumper boats.  We have lots of fun and I'm very excited.

Who do you look up to in your life? Why do you look up to them? Tell me about them and some of their characteristics that you admire.

I look up to my cousin Alyssa.  She has been a very successful person her whole life and I admire her for that.  She went to KU and there played on the girls golf team.  Now she is graduated and is living in California where she works at an office building.  In her free time she takes mission trips around the world to all different places for months on end.  The longest one she ever went on was for a year and every month she went to a new place.  Alyssa has always been my favorite cousin and shes always been very successful and had a great life.  I don't see her as much I used to when she lived here but I still talk to her every once in a while.

Tell me about your weekend.

Friday night I had Relay for Life.  There I walked a total of 10 miles and didn't sleep at all! I got home around 7 in the morning and took a 3 hour nap before I had to work at 4.  After work I went to sonic with a few friends for some ice cream then went home and slept.  On Sunday I helped my dad with yard work and went to the driving range.  Overall it was a pretty good weekend.

If you were the Principal for a week at BVHS, what would that look like? What changes would you make? Why?

If I were the principal at BVHS I wouldn't change anything.  I really enjoy our school and don't think there is anything to change about it.  If I was forced to have to change something I would say I would like to have more guest speakers when we have assemblies but that's not anything major that's affecting me on a daily basis. I really enjoy our school and I truly believe there's nothing that needs to be changed about it.

Over the weekend I visited the University of Arkansas.  It was moms weekend so we went down with my moms best friend and visited her daughter Meghan.  Meghan is a Junior and she showed me around the campus because I am considering going there for college.  We also visited her sorority, Chi Omega, and she showed me around there and what it was like.  I haven't decided if I want to be in a sorority or not so this gave me an opportunity to see it in action.  The campus was beautiful and I could really see myself going there.

To prepare myself for the real world I would say our classes need to be based off things we are going to need to know how to do.  Such as, writing a check, depositing money into a bank account, and managing money.  Many students don't know how to do these basic real world skills and I can say I am one of them.  Yes it is important for us to continue to take our core classes but we also need to focus on things that will get us through life.  During the class period we would work on how to do these basic tasks and eventually put them to use.  These classes wouldn't be different from the ones I'm taking now because I would still be learning something.  In these classes I would say that I would take more away from them because that's something I feel is important to learn in life rather than some of the other things we do in school.

Color can convey a lot of emotion when it comes to designing anything from a product to a website to an advertisement to a logo and so much more. What do you think the importance of colors on a website are? What is a color scheme and why is it important to have when designing? Explain any thoughts you might have around color in design.

Color can convey emotion in everyday things.  I think on websites and advertisements emotion is shown throw color based on what they are trying to advertise.  A sad advertisement isn't going to have bright and happy colors, it will have darker and more plain colors. The importance of colors on a website is very important.  Colors attract people to your website and allow you to perceive the emotion this website may be trying to hit. A color scheme is a group of colors people use for their website.  Color schemes are typically already grouped together but its very easy to personalize as well. They're typically colors that go well together and also colors that fit the topic of the website as well.  I believe colors are very important when it comes to designing things.  It gives your production character and allows you to personalize things to your liking.

I would love to give you less work in class if it meant you were going to focus harder on the work. Do you think you would get more out of it? Would that work for you? Why or why not?

I feel like this quote will mean different things depending on where you are. At home I do all my homework but it doesn't take nearly as long because I have more focus. At school I feel like I get a lot more done but as the day goes on my focus slowly goes away. Part of the reason I don't get as much done at school is because of my surroundings. In many of my classes I sit by my friends and I talk to them all hour instead of doing something important related to the class. Another thing that becomes distracting is my phone. During class I will text my friends or be playing games even while the teacher is teaching and my focus for whats going on in the class wont be there. I think the context of this quote will be perceived in the right way depending on your surroundings and where you are.

Tell me all about your weekend! I sure hope you have photos to share.

On Friday night I babysat coach Duggans son Michael while the freshmen girls had practice. Afterwards I hung out with some friends and we went to Jose Peppers for dinner, then went back to Kayleighs and watched Pitch Perfect. Saturday I was supposed to take the ACT but ended up not because I got sick that morning. I laid in bed the rest of the day then at 4 went into work. I got off work around 9 then came home and went to bed. Sunday morning I woke up then went to work again at 11. After work I went to my grandparents house and we all went out to dinner. After dinner I came home and watched some of the Grammy's while I did my homework. Overall it wasn't a very exciting weekend.

What's the coolest thing you've learned in this class so far this year? Now that you have a little knowledge, what do you want to learn that you don't know how to do yet?

The coolest thing I think that we have done in this class is work with Notepad++.  I think its really cool that we are building our own Website all through HTML and CSS.  I would like to go even more in depth with making the Website and put in some cool features.  The other thing that I think is really cool is the blogs that we made.  I didnt know it would be this easy to create something like this.

Tell me all about your Sweetheart weekend (even if you sat at home on the couch!). Include photos!

I went to Sweetheart with my boyfriend Kobe and 10 other of my closest friends. For pictures we went to Kobes moms house and for dinner we went to Bravo. We got to the dance around 9 and stayed for a little over an hour so we could see who was sweetheart king and queen. Afterwards we went back to Katie Stinsons for an hour or so and had some pizza and other snacks. We watched a couple of movies. We left around 12:30 and went back to Kobes and hung out there for a while. I got home around 4:30 and slept basically all day yesterday.

A website wireframe is a visual guide that represents the skeletal framework of a website. Wireframes are used to arrange the elements and they focus on the range of functions available. Wireframes help website builders organize things the way they want to and make it more efficient for the user to find the information they are looking for. They are important because it allows the builder to create the website without the interference of color, text, style, and font making it easier to build the blueprint for your website.

Friday night I went to Coachs for dinner with my family and afterwards I hung out with my friend Kayleigh and we made Rice Krispie treats.  Saturday day I went to my grandparents house then shopping with my mom.  Afterwards I went home and watched the KU game with my dad.  Saturday night I went over to my aunts to do my cousins hair for their daddy daughter dance at Lakewood Elementary.  Two are in 4th grade and the other one is in 5th grade.  Afterwards I went and babysat my friends siblings while their parents were at a party.  Sunday day I worked from 11-2 at Coachs. When I got home my dad and I watched the Duke St. Johns game.  Afterwards I did my homework then went to my grandparents for dinner.  We had meatloaf and mashed potatoes then for dessert we had lemon cake. Once I got home I finished up some homework then went to bed.

In my opinion, I feel kids these days are beyond spoiled. When I was younger kids were using flip phones and actually enjoying time outside when now they spend every day using their brand new I-Phone 6.  They also get just about anything they want when they want.  Its frustrating that this is what the world has come to but I guess that just goes to show how much times have changed. Unfortunately the way the world has changed almost feels like its trying to age the younger generations faster than it should.  Children in elementary school shouldn't have the luxury of having a phone in 3rd grade, that's way too early, but sadly that is what the social norm has become.  I wish kids could still enjoy their childhood instead of growing up way to fast.

What do you find the most confusing and frustrating part of web design and HTML code so far? What would make it easier? What don't you understand? What do you understand? Explain yourself.


The things I find most confusing about HTML coding is that there's so many different codes we need to know so it gets confusing trying to remember which one to use. We've practiced enough on a daily basis which makes it easier to remember which codes to use but it can still be confusing. I understand how to change the style, color, and font of the text along with bringing in pictures and making an ordered list. I'm still confused on making a link tag, a lot of time it still doesn't work when I do it the first time. For the most part I find that the more I practice all the codes they're easier to use.

On Friday I went to Coach's for dinner with my friend Camille then afterwards we went to the boys basketball game. We left at half and went to Sonic to get some ice cream then just hung out. Saturday day I laid in bed because I woke up with an awful cold. I spent most of the day watching two seasons of Greys Anatomy on Netflix. Saturday night we went to my aunts house for dinner and to watch the KU game. Sunday day I also spent most of it in bed because my cold had gotten even worse so I watched lots of movies on Netflix. I watched Mean Girls, Step Up, and Freaky Friday. Sunday night I hung out with my mom and watched the football games, unfortunately the teams we wanted to win didn't. After the games we watched some movies that were on TV; The Proposal, Pitch Perfect, and The Blind Side. Monday day I went shopping with my mom for some new clothes and stuff for my room. Monday night I hung out with my dad and watched some KU basketball.

I am currently a Junior at Blue Valley High School. Here I am involved in Girls Golf, Basketball, and a variety of clubs. I have been on the Varsity Girls golf team for 3 years, I played basketball my freshmen and sophomore year and this year I decided to manage for the freshmen team instead of playing. I joined Prom Committee this year and I have loved being a part of it. My favorite class this year is probably Chemistry. I love doing experiments and learning about different chemical reactions, I also really like my teacher Mr. Mann. This school year I'm looking forward to improving my GPA and getting involved in even more clubs. I want to make these last years at Blue Valley ones to remember.

What are your thoughts on this class so far? Easy? Hard? Informative? Frustrating? What have you learned so far? What do you want to learn? Explain yourself.

So far I have really enjoyed this class.  As of right now its been fairly easy but I'm sure as we move farther into the semester it will become more difficult.  I have learned a lot about Google chrome, blogger, Codecademy, and about the computer and all its functions.  I would love to go even farther in depth with blogger and other features because I really enjoy it.  I would also like to learn even more about coding because I know later on in life I will probably have to use HTML at some time or another.  I am very excited about taking this class and improving my technology skills throughout the semester.

Friday night the Freshmen girls team had a game at Blue Valley Northwest.  I'm a manager for the Black Team (Sophomore), unfortunately they lost their game by a few points. The Gold Team (Freshmen) played afterwards and they were able to pull through with a win.  Saturday day I went to my grandparents house and help them take down Christmas decorations and visited with them for a while. Saturday night I went to work from 5-11. I work at Coach's on 135th and Antioch, they were fairly busy throughout the night due to all the football and basketball games being played but eventually it slowed down. Sunday day I went shopping with my mom and bought a new pair of converse and a sweetheart dress. Sunday night we went to my aunts house for my cousins 11th birthday party with the family.  We all watched the football game that was on and had cake and ice cream to celebrate.

I believe that this is a very accurate statement.  Many teenagers come home from school everyday, complete their homework, then sit around and do nothing. There are many options available that they can go do.  This newspaper clipping makes me glad to know that there are people out there that believe teenagers are spoiled and get exactly what they want without being taught real world things. You shouldn't have to be paid to mow the lawn or do other chores around the house.  Teenagers shouldn't expect to get everything they want when they want it. We shouldn't expect people to do everything for us. This is why I agree with the Judges statement about how we need to be motivated to do things for ourselves and the world without being told to.
